Hey guys, just wondering if it would be legal for me to take my .22 and my 12 gauge turkey hunting with me?? i'd use the 12 gauge for turkey and the .22 for them d*%$ coyotes. Just wondering if this is legal before I did it, it sounds like it would be legal, but i'm not sure so I figured i'd ask.

I would really talk to the CO in your area, or just call the main info line for the DNR. That is where you will get the most acurate info. Remember to write down the name of the co you talk to, just in case another officer sees things different.

Another thing, if it is legal, I sure would be careful if I had someone else with me. Then they Could be considered hunting also. So just make sure of things before doing it.

From the 2004 Spring Turkey hunting regs:

"Shotguns and muzzleloading shotguns 20-gauge or larger may be used with a resident or nonresident combination
gun/bow license. You may only have size 4, 5, 6, 7 1/2 or 8 lead or nontoxic shot, or size 2 or 3 nontoxic shot
on your person while turkey hunting."

Although I couldn't say for sure, it looks like a good bet that you would not be able to carry your .22.

I would rather be carrying a turkey load to down a coyote than a .22 anyway. Don't think it would be legal though, but not sure.

It is not legal. Check the regs. You cannot carry any kind of rifle while you are turkey hunting. I agree with deadeye.....I would much rather have a tight patterning load of 4's, 5's, or 6's than a .22 to throw at a coyote.

i've seen coyotes run off after getting hit with .243 or 22-250 before. just pack the 12 gauge. if you're in the timber it'll be a close up shot anyway. good luck.
