Jeff Aulik, owner of Grey Wolf Woolens and sponsor of our site, tagged a super good buck that he's been after for a few years now. Here's the story he shared and gave permission to post.
"I didn't hunt all fall because I was so busy.(not like me ..I love to
hunt and in the past always found time somehow) But I had cameras out
and had some good ones on cameras. I started last fri. morning. I just
told myself I'm going to spend some time in the woods the next 2 weeks.
If the orders don't get out in time I guess they waited to long to
order. I was going nuts!
Rattled in a 135 incher fri morning. he was super pissed, all bristled
up and weezing. 15 yards broadside, but I passed. I figured its the
first morning, and I had some better ones on camera.
Sun morning I got up at 3:30 am drove an hour up north and got in the
stand at 5:30. at around 8:00 I rattled, nothing for a few minutes and
then i heard a twig snap. looked over and this hog was coming over the
hill. His rack isn't super great, but he's a buck i've been after for a
few years, and his body is huge! I had him at 12 yards last year the day
after muzzleloader season closed and I couldn't get a shot. I have pics
of him for 3 years, he's actually slightly smaller score wise this year
than last, he's not as wide, shorter beams, maybe slightly more mass
near the head. Last year I had pics of him in early sept. then I never
saw him again until mid december when I had the close encounter. I knew
he lived right there somewhere but I didn't know exactly where he
bedded. This year I had pics of him in late august early sept, then gone
again until I just happened to get a pic of him mid morning a couple
weeks ago walking down a logging road where I had a camera set up for
trespassers. That pic told me where he was headed to bed, and it all
made sense. He was bedded in one of a few pockets of thick balsams in
the middle of a large clear cut. Super noisy raspberry brush all around,
small rolling hills. No way to ever sneak up on him without him just
slipping out the other side.
Kinda neat to have some history with a deer and finally connect."
Congrats Jeff!
