Do any of you fanatics out there know anything about Jefferson County. I have recently been offered to hunt a 980 acres farm in Jefferson that is only hunted by two bow hunters. It would be a long way to travel, 1300 miles, but I think it may be worth it. Do any of you locals have an opinion of this area or advice?

Just my opinion, Illinois. If the farm has any decent fence rows or woods on it. Most likely it has trophy potential, meaning that I'll bet anything that there is a couple of good bucks running around. Illinois has the best age structure out of any state that I know of! They have many old mature bucks running around. Try to get ariel photos of the farm or topo's. You could easily see if it worth hunting. There isn't any bad counties in Illinois, they all have trophy bucks! Trust me!!!

Hey shedhuntermd,

I happen to live in Jefferson County (Mt. Vernon to be exact). What would you like to know?

Am am just simply excited about the prospect of hunting somewhere where the bucks grow large. I am just looking for info ie. is the area mostly wooded or fields, and if there are some monsters taken around there. Thanks Ryan

There are alot of agriculture fields, small blocks of timber, fence rows, and wooded draws. I assume that it is much like Iowa, only with smaller bucks. There are a few monsters killed here each year. What part of the county will you be hunting?
