Keeping track of the rut

I have an idea, and I think this is a good time to throw it at you. Why don’t we post every time you see a rutting buck. If we can keep track of rutting bucks we can look back year after year and maybe figure out the rut even better than we all ready know. What I am talking about are bucks you see running though fields, chasing does, and just plain acting crazy. What do you think???

Sounds good. So do you want time of day and date? Do we want to track weather conditions at the time of sighting as well? A few simple rules and we could collectively put together some good data. We could start some running posts for data collection on a number of different topics. If there is a consistent collection method we could put some interesting info together on a number of different whitetail and turkey popics.

1 Date
2 Time of day
3 Number of sightings
4 State your in.
5 Weather is optional

I think this will help us all even me in Maryland our rut seems to be close with Iowa’s. And the fact is that we are deer crazy, and cant possibly learn too much knowledge about these awsome animals.

Tonight on October 24, 2003 I saw 4 different bucks. They were all alone. I saw one chasing a doe. The weather was clear but windy. Two of them I could of taken, but just not big enough for this early in the season.

last night saw 1 150 class buck about 5:30 chasing a young doe weather was overcast winds coming out of the northwest he got into my shot window so i took him

...saw some inebriated college jocks whistling & howling at a couple of University coeds at Scheels in Iowa City, does that count?

....Haven't seen any deer rut activity other than some rubs and scrapes...

@ 4:20 pm, A younger buck chased 3 doe's through the timber. Hunting by a rub line, on top of a saddle running east and west, wind from north west

10/26 From the spotting scope in truck, Sunset 5:20ish. 150 Class 10 point. Drop-tine off right G2. And stickers. In cornfield middle of nowhere. Surrounding cover basically a fencerow. With doe, the doe's fawn was off a distance. Not much you can do on this one. Hunt the closest patch of timber.

10/27 Different cornfield. Buck scent checking does at around sunset. Does scattered and ran. 140 class 8 point. Couldn't make out any g4s. Maybe 10 point. Again long ways away with spotting scope. This is within sight of my treestand. Should of been in stand but couldn't be there.
