Late hunt in Fayette Co..best time???

I am making my first Iowa hunt this year for the late muzzleloader season. I am hunting private land in Fayette Co, and was wondering if anyone can recommend the best time to hunt...license is from Dec 22 to mid Jan. Also, looking at the rules and regs, I am guessing I can use my Knight Disc rifle as a legal muzzleloader???

Best time depends on weather, snow depth, whether that farm was shotgun hunted, and whether your farm has food on it or not. If we have deep snow and cold temps it will all be good if you have a food source on that farm. If it is cold with deep snow and you don't have any food it could be brutal.

Unless you plan on being gone for Christmas, you are only looking at a 2 week period after. I would give them untill after christmas to calm back down, then hopefully you have a good food source to spend long afternoons watching. Mornings can be real tough then, afternoons are usually everything.

All depends on what the farm is like. If its got good it could be loaded, if it doesn't have food it could be tough to see a deer.

As guys said, find a string of five days around 0-5 degrees as a low, and every buck with have to get up within shooting hours.

I always had the best luck the last 10 days of season on the public I hunt. The deer are much calmer then. Also depends on everything else mentioned above.

I would try and go as late as possible- I know each property is different- but If there is a food source in range and timber near by- set up between there in Jan- how deep the snow is could change all that as well- but that IMO would be the best bet

As stated above, weather is the big factor along with the food source. If they are there I would be extra careful with exposure cause they will be spooky. Oh yeh, one more thing. Make sure you are out there before and during any type of snow fall.
