<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com
</st1:State>Iowa's late muzzleloader deer season begin December 20, and is the final season where any-deer licenses are available. Last year, about 39,400 any deer licenses were issued to more than 28,000 hunters, who took 10,400 deer.
Deer populations are above objectives in portions of central, west-central, and southern <st1:State w:st="on"><ST1Iowa</st1:State>. Hunters can help landowners by taking extra antlerless deer in these areas. During the late muzzleloader season, hunting food sources, especially during cold snaps, is productive.
Party hunting is not allowed during late muzzleloader season and hunters are required to wear blaze orange. Shooting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.
Hunters can utilize the HUSH program to donate deer to the Iowa Food Bank and provide needed meat for Iowans. <st1:State w:st="on"><ST1Iowa</st1:State>'s deer donation program is one of the largest in the nation.

All deer taken must be reported using the harvest reporting system by midnight the day after the deer is recovered. Accurately reporting the kill is an important part of <st1:State w:st="on"><ST1Iowa</st1:State>'s deer management program and plays a vital role in managing deer populations and future hunting opportunities.
Hunters can report their deer on the DNR website www.iowadnr.gov, by calling 1-800-771-4692, or at any license vendor. For hunters with Internet access, the online reporting is the easiest way to register your deer.

Hunters that hunted during the early muzzleloader season or one of the shotgun seasons with an any-deer license are still eligible to purchase an antlerless-only license for the late muzzleloader season and hunt antlerless animals.

License holders for the youth deer season with any-deer licenses who did not harvest a deer are eligible to use the license and unused tag during the late muzzleloader season. The youth hunter must follow the weapons restrictions that are in place during the season - a muzzleloading rifle or bow only - and be under the direct supervision of an adult mentor.
