Late season bowhunting clothes?

I have a pretty good layering system for the days where the wind is less than 10 mph. Any more wind than that, it's just not comfortable for a long sit.

What I'm looking for is a wind breaking outer layer that is as quiet as wool, fleece etc. Seems a lot of the new poly fabrics get stiff and noisy with temps below 20.

Anyone have a good outer shell they can recommend?

I bought an off-brand (Mad Dog?) poly-goretex-fleece coat from the new store in Ankeny earlier this fall. It's got drawstrings on the bottoms to fit tight around your waist and a high neck.

I wore it all fall during bowseason with just a long sleeved t-shirt underneath. I also wore it during shotgun season for the early morning sits over the top of my Carhartt's with just a Jerzeez sweatshirt and a tshirt underneath. The best thing about it is wind cannot get through. The inside is fleece lined and the outer shell has a very low nap but it still soft.

Paid about $100 for it and have loved it to death. I'd highly recommend it to anybody. It's also got two very deep breast pockets that can each accomodate a bottle of water or pop plus grunt tube, tobacco, and knife.

I picked up Cabela's MT 050 Bibs and parka they are quite and offer a great deal of flexabiliy for use. Very very warm I might add.

I also have Cabela's MTO50, quality clothing that I wear quite often, but I actually prefer the Gray Wolf in extreme cold weather. I chose to go with both insulation and the wind proof lining, as well as, a thick fleece lining on the inside.

I just checked out the site and see where they are offering fleece in Predator. I've talked to Jeff several times with GW about where to find it, guess he decided to try it himself

I'm not sure what you are looking to pay RBB, but I also have a pair of Whitewater's 3D Realfleece Bibs that are a good product for under $200.

Hope some of this helps out...

Thanks Two Beards,

Actually, I have a decent set of base layer of clothing. I use the King of the Mountain "Bowman Jacket" and "Hillbilly Bibs" which are all wool. They work well until it gets windy.

I'm looking for a light wind breaker type shell that is "very quiet" and will slip over my existing clothing without getting to bulky.

The gray wolf stuff looks nice, suppose it pretty similar to the KOM.

I'm not too sure there is such a piece of clothing by itself. The base layer garments I wear have windstopper sewn in between layers, so noise isn't a problem. As far as pullovers, on cold, windy days I'll where a Gore-windstopper wool pullover. It's certainly warm, but when worn over other garments to say it doesn't hinder my movement would be a lie

You might consider calling Cabela's and talking with a 'product specialist', but IMO you'll probably need to put the layer you're looking for 'between layers'.

Good Luck and if you find something let us know.
