I was wondering if it's legal to take a Mule deer in Iowa. Is it kind of just like any deer? You just have to tag it legally. Thanks for any info.

Don't know but am curious myself. Do your guys tags say good for 1 whitetail deer or just deer? If it says whitetail, there's the answer.

There was a guy that shot one in NW iowa this year and he didn't get in trouble I recall from the article.

Your Iowa deer tag is a deer tag. They figure that the chance of someone shooting a mule deer is very slim and many hunters wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Think about it in terms of moose or elk, as there is no mistaking them for a deer. The DNR is giving you the benefit of the doubt on mulies.

The reason I'm wondering is because I thought I saw a Mulie the other day. This is in Southwest Iowa.
