letter to the editor in today's register

interesting! wonder what this guy would do if a bird cracked his windshield? :thrwrck: some people just like to b!tch.

and people are actually agreeing with him!

ya know, there are some stupid people out there... and like you teeroy, I don't have the energy to really reply to it... there is just too much wrong with that statement!

lets say mr. moron gets his wish..........who does he think is REALLY paying for it??
i'm pretty sure that is what my ginormous insurance premiums are going for.

unbelievable, like most of you said to much wrong with that BS to even reply to his stupidity. Move out of Iowa if you don't like it!

Maybe I do not know enough of the politics on the subject but how come you guys disagree with him? We do have to pay the state for all of our hunting licenses and such, but if we hit a deer with our vehicle we are responsible. He seems to make sense to me. I'm sure I am just not informed on the subject throughly being that I consider myself a conservative. Could some explain in greater detail why you disagree?

So if the state pays for the damage and law suits what do you think they will want to do to the deer herd.

Your licenses fee would go crazy.

well for starters, the STATE isn't going to pay. the taxpayers are going to pay. and currently, the taxpayers are already paying for the actions of too many people.
hell, i need a new truck.......i'll just drive it into the ditch, and say i swerved to miss a deer. the state will pay for it.
a couple raccoons got into my chicken house and killed a bunch of chickens....you expect the state to pay for that too?

Tis True, everyone wants someone elses money. Everyone wants to Blame someone for life. Everyone want to Sue. The State can't print more, but the Gov. can. There is no end to the $. As Chico said in the first Marx Bro's movie,"I got lots a numbers!".

First of all, does the state indeed require farmers to carry what amounts to "fence insurance"? I have a rider on my homeowners’ policy for damage incurred by others due to my negligence in keeping my livestock (at the time a flock of chickens and you can’t prove that was my wife’s cat) off the road. This is an optional rider, one that I chose to have, doesn’t mean the state does not require it, but with the power of the Farm Bureau, who just happens to sell insurance, I wouldn’t be surprised.

As far as it being a good idea to make the state pay for the damage caused by THEIR deer, the part of that statement that is fundamentally wrong is they are not the state’s deer. They are the people’s deer held in trust and managed by the DNR.

Therefore, we the people would end up paying for the damage to all the cars i.e.: a deer collision tax. Sure it would spread out the cost to everybody, but isn’t that why we pay insurance? Perhaps we should all stop paying for vehicle insurance and send what we would pay in premiums directly to the state to distribute back to the vehicle owners that hit deer. Now there is a bureaucracy I want no part of.

It really isn’t politics per se, rather it is the free enterprise system that maintains our way of doing business. You can choose to either have car insurance that will pay for the damage or you can choose to have liability insurance only and pay out of pocket to repair the damage. If we lived in a more socialized type of state then the system would be quite different and the state may indeed pay for anything and everything on the backs of the tax payers. So you can choose to pay for what you want to, or you could choose to pay the state and they will spend your money for you. America is all about choices.

I doubt if this made it any clearer, it didn’t really help me either, but the bottom line is the deer aren’t the state’s, they are being managed appropriately (depends on who you talk to) and they belong to us, so we are ultimately responsible and there ain’t no way I’m gunna pay to have the state fix somebody’s 1992 Geo Metro.

The ‘Bonker

To your whole post - well put Bonker.

To the part I quoted - America is all about choices.....under the current administration I can only say that America is all about choices....for now. What you describe of the state (feds) spending your money they way they want is closing in more and more each day with that socialist clown in office.

Hey, I resemble that remark!:thrwrck:

That really fires me up!! Somebody even said that the DNR is using license money to bloat their own salaries! I refrained, but I think I could give my opinion to nearly every comment I read!
