Here's the situation that leads to the question;
Looking at becoming an Iowa resident. Currently, I just need access to the internet for my job which involves some travelling...
Question..I have contacted the Iowa DNR and talked to different Iowa residents to clarify this statment in the Iowa hunting rule book. All had different answers....
Question;
To become a Iowa resdient and purchase a resident hunting license you must have a valied Iowa drivers license(OK)AND PHYSICALLY RESIDE IN THE STATE 30 DAYS IMMEDIATELY BEFORE PURCHASING A LICENSE. Does this mean that every hunter in Iowa never leaves the state 30 days before they purchase a license??
Traveling salepersons, truckers, even going on a summer vacation would be an issue.
Someone please clarify this..

PS GREAT SITE and a little plug. Central Iowa Archery shop did a great job with a dozen Easton Epic with Iowawhitetail raps ..

I believe this means that you have to have permanent residence for at least 30 days in Iowa. This would make you and Iowa resident, and able to purchase such license.

Tiger,

Maybe I can help clarify it for you a bit. The 30 day section was put into effect to keep someone from just coming into the state for a couple of days, getting a post office box address and then claiming they are now an Iowa resident to get a resident deer license.

Once Iowa residency is established how long you are out of state does not factor into the equation.

There is another law that nonresidents need to be aware of that want to establish an Iowa residence. It's our "Dual Residency Not Permitted" law. It's in the regulations booklet under "Requirements for Purchasing Resident Licenses." It's best to read it yourself but in a nutshell its says you can't have any "privileges" in another state (hunting/fishing licenses, drivers license, voting rights, etc) and be eligible for a resident Iowa license. There are a few exceptions spelled out in the booklet.
