livestock question

The land that I bowhunt has quite a bit of livestock on it. the livestock rotates around the farm from one paddock to another including timbers. They are not there for long. How much does livestock placement effect the patterning bucks ie; bedding, feeding areas etc.

Been my experience, livestock move in....deer move out. They might pass through, but their home range will definitely be different.

RBB said it in a nut shell! How often does the farmer rotate back to the same pasture? You use the word "paddock" as if the farmer is using some kind of intensive grazing system. Tell us more because some used pastures can be productive.

Welcome to the site!

In a timber/pasture that I hunt, my Dad usually has his cattle there into the fall a while until he weans the calves. well you don' see many deer until a week or two after they are gone, other then ones passing through.

thanks for the welcome, the grazing and rotation is pretty intense, i should probably get with the farmer to figure out his specific system, they cattle are not in the timbers for more than a week or so and then are placed again probably til spring

I'm sure the farmer already has a grazing plan drawn out. Ask to see his schedualed rotation and go from there.

Good Luck!

As long as theirs cover there the deer will be there. If its a wide open timber than I would look for a new spot. Some of my best spots are areas where cattle cleared everything out and now new growth of grasses, and particullary briars, have come in.
