Lone Wolf Hang-On ?

I bought a lone wolf late last fall and used it a few times during late muzzleloader season. I really like the stand especially with a set of sticks too go with it. But I was always having trouble getting the stand to really bite the tree and be rock solid. At first I was using the batwing and wasn't very comfortable with that so I tried the easy-hang hook. Either way the bottom would always slide around on me.

Just wondering if there's some trick to really make it bite down.

Another thing I really fell in love with me brothers hand climber and would almost rather just pack my steps in on that and use it as a hang on. For me it's just easier to throw the cable around the tree jump in the platform and hang the seat. And once you cinch the two straps that connect the seat to the platform it's absolutely rock solid. Just as confenient to pack in with the sticks also and lighter. So if anybody has a nice handclimber they would like to trade for a basically new alpha hang-on I would definitely be willing to do that.

Tighten top strap first. Lift the stand up and tighten the bottom strap. Then lower the stand and it should "bite" and be rock solid.

Practice it in your yard.

If your using the hook, when you put the second strap on make sure you are putting it on the top versa button. Put the platform up and tighten it as much as you can then the platform will cam lock down on the tree and you should be rock solid. If you are still having difficulty you can also add a stap on the bottom versa button but you shouldn't need to.

When I started to use mine I had the same problem and once I got used to it, there was no longer any issue.

I wasn't too concerned because I haven't used them a whole lot. I think I'll do some dinking around in the yard. Thanks guys...

I do like the idea of just having the hang-on though. That way I can use the climber or the sticks.

I use the hanging hook and straps on BOTH versa buttons. I don't take that much longer to tighten the second strap and it's just an extra layer of assurance of a rock-solid setup.

I always put the hook on, then when I put the second strap on I always use the bottom Versa button, I fold the platform up about a 15 degree angle then force it down. I used to the top versa button thinking it would be safer if the top one for some reason broke, but didn't think it helped the bottom much as far as being steady so I did a test. I hung my stand about 3 feet off the ground, made sure the bottom strap was on tight and angled up on the tree a bit, then stood on it and loosened the top strap so it wasn't holding. To my suprise it sat there perfect and didn't budge. Then I got to looking at it, and I was like DUH as long as the strap is above the platform and tight, there is no way it could ever fall. So ever since that, I always use the hook and the bottom versa button.

I only use a single strap set-up with the offset bracket, if done properly, the second strap isn't needed. Here's how I do it.

Tighten top strap with platform in the up-right position. Once top strap is hand-tight, I rotate the platform down, which "cam's" the top belt even tighter. Once I climb onto the stand, I bear-hug the tree, with one foot against the main-tube, I lift the front of the platform up with my other foot, which causes the platform to "walk" down the tree a bit. This puts all you're weight onto the strap, thus causing it to tighten to the point where it's LOCKED into position. Once you do this, the stand is absolutely rock-solid, and I doesn't require the extra strap on the lower versa-button.

I find it easier to use without the "J-Hook", but that's just me. Keep it simple!

Since my wing span is so short I bought an extra strap. I use the J hook (modified Rack style) with one strap. Then I put a strap on the top versa button as tight as you can get it. Have the stand anled about 30 degree's or so and put last strap on the bottom versa button. Hand tighten again and step into the stand. If the platform levels out you did good and the stand should be solid. Sometimes the platform doesn't level out and you know you had the wrong angle when setting the bottom versa button. Practice in the yard will be very helpful.
