Looking to purchase my first bow. Seeking advice.

Like i said I am in the market for a bow and am not real knowledgable on what to look for. I shot a marquis and liked it, but my friend, who's old bow I used last year is recommending that I get one with binary cams and parallel limbs. What does everyone on here think. I shot a PSE last year. i appreciate everyones response.

I would say to shoot as many as you can to find the one that fits you the best. There are a lot of good bows out there Bowtech, Mathews, PSE, Bear, and even Hoyt :). Shoot as many as you can and come to your own conclusion on what works best for you. Good luck!

Thanks, and i do plan to shoot a lot. I am just not sure of which would work out better or if people have had bad experiences with certain bows and such.

Just buy a Bowtech and get it over with! Thats what Andy from Double A Archery would tell you anyway.

Don't forget to look at slightly used bows. Some people get the latest and greatest every year..... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Pretty good advise IMO.

Are there any good websites or places to go to to look at used bows. I looked at some at scheels, but none that really peaked my interest.

This used to be me. Trading bows every year for the newest models. Problem is that bows depreciate worst than a moblile home or a jap motorcycle. I knew this and accepted it. I then bought a 06 Bowtech Tribute and an 07 Bowtech Guardian and now that I have both of these bows, it is basically impossible IMO to improve on perfection. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif Oh, sure, maybe a micro- minute improvement on a draw cycle, or an extra fps, or an inaudible notice in noise reduction. These two bows define my kind of perfection in a hunting bow, and finally I am satisfied. I actually never thought I would be, but I don't see any traded bows in my future. Happy camper here.
Bowtech is on with archery and have their sheet together when it comes to making bows for sure.

With that being said, shoot them all and get what floats your boat. Your question is like asking us whether to get a blonde, brunette, or a redhead. Hell you are the one sleeping with it in your home. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Here ya go. Tons of them. You can buy them decked out with custom strings, sights, quivers, and other FREE stuff that the seller will basically give to you while he loses his arse.

Easiest thing to do is to get ahold of Boyd at Buck Hollow and talk with him. He has Bowtechs and Hoyts set-up that you can shoot. His shop is located in Pella.

Phone# 641-628-4586.

</div></div>Thanks a lot. I currnetly live in Ankeny so Pella would be a bit of a drive for me, but I will definately leave this as an option.

Depending what you want to spend is a good indication of which bow you are going to buy.

If money isnt an issue, go new and expensive and you wont regret it. Cant afford to drop 800 to 1300 then look for the "new" used option (2 year old stuff).

Here is my real suggestion. Find some bows you shoot well and really like the feel of at a shop. Then go and buy one on-line. And REGARDLESS of what the person you buy if from says. Take it straight to a professional and have them check it over, tune it and fit it to you. Things to watch for are Mathews, you have to buy the bow that fits you. They are non-adjustable without buying cams. Mathews are like the cadilac of bows. They are extremely comfortable to shoot, performance is at the top but so is their price.

Dean </div></div>Thanks. I shot a Marquis a couple weeks ago and really like that one. I am only looking to spend about $600 for a bare bones bow though. THen i will buy everything to suit me.

If new is an option, I would agree to find a real good shop (Buckhollow is an example) rather than BIG BOX store. If you are searching for a good deal, Archery Talk classifieds is a solid option. I bought my last bow (Ross 337) off of AT. Bought a one year old bow (about $625/new) with about $100 worth of accessories for just over $400. Also sold my old bow on AT for around $150 so I ended up only out about $200 for the upgrade.

Used bows may need new strings or different accessories so plan on putting some dollars into them once you get it. But, there are alot of solid used bows on the internet. Also, sometimes the classifieds on this site also present some very good equipment deals from people you may already know.

trust me, i live in stuart, and i drive right passed many bowshops on the way to pella. well worth the drive to buck hollow.
