Was checking cams this morning and thought this does neck looks a bit strange. Angle, lighting, or is it missing a huge chunk?

Even my .72 cal won't leave a mark that big.

I would guess that it is an old centerfire rifle wound. A couple of years ago I had a dog come in that had been shot in the same area as that doe's wound. I treated the dog, and when he came back a year later for his rabies booster vaccination, his neck looked just like that doe does now.

Does anyone else see a circular area of distortion in the grass as well?

I'll vote with Doc.. Old wound from probably a Center fire.. Darn things eat a lot of meat. You'll have to shoot her Jay so we can do a post mortum.

last year i was in nebraska. and my brother bet me fifty bucks I couldnt kill a deer with my bare hands so I layed in the grass, and when a doe walked by I jumped out and latched on with my teeth. than it got away.

I can also see the circular distortion that Cent Iowa sees. I'm voting rain drop. I can see a vague border around it coming off the deer.

But I like the civil war cannon comment the best.
