Lozin fruit tonight!

With mid twenties or teens tonight across most of eastern Iowa,,fruit trees are in danger tonight,,if your buds are out. I am wondering if spraying the trees with water twards dawn or during the coldest temps would do any good. I have some early apples and pears in my yard. Could turn the hose on em? Maybe couldn't hurt,,or maybe would not help either if temps gets low enough...

The apple tree in my yard at home has A LOT of buds right now...I hope they aren't all in danger tonight...but I suspect that they are.

Dang, I clicked on your post, thinking there was a new fruit tree called Lozin Fruit....ha ha. Yeah it snowed in MN, and got down to 18.

Up there in Iowa City? The farther north the colder tonight. I have heard about spraying trees with water but never read just how to do it or when or really how effective. The mid twenties temps start to be the critical point. If buds are hanin out. If they are tight they can withstand quite low temps,,but some of mine are out. Closed but out. Mid twenties maybe low 20s expected even in SE Iowa,,so tonight my crop may be doomed. Later varieties ,like I have some delicious, are tight yet. Guess this lesson is also to plant late varieties.

Hard to say? I got down to my land today. Difficult to detect damage this soon. Guess I will see how tough my trees are. Quarter inch of ice on my rain barrel though! Mighty COLD!
