Lyme Disease

I just heard on the local news that Lyme Disease is expected to be at its highest rate in Iowa this year. This is of concern to me, especially when I take my family hunting. I don't want to get it, and I surely do not want my kids or wife to get the disease.

I would like to know what you do to avoid the risk of being bitten. I have not found any scent free bug spray, and the scented of course would not be a wise choice. Any ideas would be appreciated. We all must protect ourselves from this dreaded disease.

Don't panic yet. Go to www.cdc.gov and search on disease and conditions. Transmission is very unlikely if tick is removed promptly even if attached. Use the proper technique to remove them and you also reduce the risk of transmission. They also have the info on repellants. You really have to worry about the mountain lions

Rhino skin suits help a bit and permanone is a non scented permethrin product I have had good luck with in the past..while deer hunting

I got tested for lyme disease, about 3-4 weeks ago and they still havent gotten back to me yet to tell me the results. so who knows I may have it

all I know is I pulled off about 15-20 deer ticks off of me during second season turkey hunting and one of the bites is still there. I've called them several times but they still dont know. so I think next spring im gonna have to try some tick control also

DONT PUT PERMANONE ON YOUR SKIN I REPEAT DONT PUT IT ON YOUR SKIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spray your clothes the night before you go hunting then let it dry overnight or withing an hour or 2.....if u put it on your skin it can make u break out in a bad rash, make you dizzy, and even kill you. Deet wont work for ticks, it works wonders on misquetos (sp) but does nothing to ticks. Same with permanone it works wonder with ticks but nothing with skeeters.

p.s. if you in iowa, after about mid september we almost never have any problems with ticks, and defenally not wile bowhunting or waterfowl or pheasant hunting...but spring turkeys i wouldnt leave w/o spraying my clothes the night b4.
