Mathews Genesis

My 11 year old daughter has taken an interest in hunting lately. She has been sitting down with me and watching my hunting shows, and she enjoys standing on the deck and watching me shoot my bow. Last night I dropped some arrows off at CIA to get re-fletched and she shot a Genesis. She absolutely loved it. So here's my question. From looking at the Mathew's web site, it says the Genesis can be adjusted up to 20 pounds. I'm thinking 20 pounds isn't nearly enough to kill a deer. I told her that she would have to practice for a year before I would let her actually go hunting with me. For those of you that are familiar with the Genesis bow, are they more of a target bow for kids, or can they be used for hunting as well? I really don't want to buy 2 bows for her within 2 years.

Browning makes the smae type of bow(no let off, out to 31 in draw length) but makes it in a 20 or a 29# version! I think they are starter bows more than anything. Made for teaching kids how to grip and give them the feel of a real bow. Also, they are nice because if you have multiple kids at different ages, they can all shoot it, you don't need to mess with draw lengths!

It is something to get her started and let her shoot with dad, she will quickly develop muscles by practicing and before long be able to pull more poundage and get into a quality youth bow! Something with enough punch to shoot a deer, and let off so she can hold it back(and steady) while aiming!

We sell a lot of them and give free lessons to all our new kid shooters! It is a ball having kids join our sport. If you have the extra cash get her one! You'll never regret it(IMO) When you go out to practice, she'll drag that thing out to shoot with ya all the time!!

P.S. They actually shoot arrow out pretty quickly, drawing the bow back to about 28 inches at 18LBS it was about 15 fps!! LOL We like to test stuff!

target bow only. great starter bow to learn the basics and work up to a hunting bow. i think that a hunting bow should be 40-45 pounds, at a minimum

My daughter shot the Hoyt Banshee until last year. Now 11 she shoots Diamond. THe Edge and Cutter are serious shooting machines. I agree with T that the Genesis is a good skills bow. You can usually move a Genesis pretty easy. In fact I have one if you are interested.

I looked into the Genesis for my son a couple of years ago. I didn't like the fact that it had no let off and couldn't go up further than 20#. I bought him a Parker Buckshot. It has a great adjustable range in Draw Length and poundage. Price set up is around $300 or less.

Is it a Genesis or a Mini Genesis? I have a 5 year old that is getting close and I'm interested in getting him started soon. I might want to talk.

It was the full size, and it went to it's new home this afternoon. I bought the Mini for my son this year (shot a recurve before that) He ADORES this new Mini Genesis. I'd highly recommend one.
