For you guys that are looking to get a DSD strutter I would go with the Edge Expedite DYI tailfan holder if you want a holder that folds. I don't plan on having to take the nut and washer of the deek so no chance of loosing it in the leaves. Just loosen nut slide tail holder off then tighten nut to the back of the decoy.

Plus there is no fleshing or drying of the tailfan. You cut the feathers off then hot glue them in the holder.

There is a slot in the holder that fits the bolt on the strutter very snug. It comes grey which I think would work but I painted mine black

I don't know, SOMETHING needs to be modified because it can't be perfect out of the package.... can it? ;)

A wind of about 12mp and no problems

Sad part is my wing holder is not going to work with out some big changes. But I plan to work on it after season.

Yeah I'm worried that if the wind gets too strong the feathers will break over:(

Also loks like I could have cut them a little shorter. What do you guys think?

I agree. When you open it up does the fan fold open to a fixed position or do you have to set each feather at a certain angle to make the fan?

Its a slick deal. The center feather is fix. You take a string tie it to the center feather spread the rest of the feathers out. Then hot glue the string to the rest of the feathers tieing the string to the last feather. I did each side seperate.

So when you want to unfold it you pull the string and it pulls all the feathers to where you want them. So you don't have to set each feather every time. I thing that would be a pain.

I like that. Do you open each quill seperately, or are they linked together and by opening one, you open them all on one side? Funny, you paint your gray one black, and I paint my black one grayish. You mod man you:way:

Ah, now it makes sense. And I agree that would be a pain in the rear to set each feather seperately especially at nautical twilight.

Now that was funny.:D Except I check the forecast on a site that shows nautical twilight. Now that limb said it I can see myself making sure I'm setup by the mysterious nautical twilight.
