Melanistic Buck

I got this picture in an e-mail and thought it was interesting. It was taken in Mississippi in January of this year. I've seen an Albino before but never a Melanistic deer. A heck of a trophy in my book.

Man that is the coolest. That thing would really get the heart pounding. I understand that these are much more rare than white or albino genenics. I believe I've personally only seen one other photo of such a deer.

Thanks Rack

I seen this photo on a web pages trophy area...can't remember where though.....pretty cool.

Hey Rack thats pretty cool. I have seen that picture somewhere before. There was another melanistic buck killed that was a feature in the Dec. issue of NAW.(I think it was Dec. issue). It was not as black though. It was the first deer that the hunter ever harvested.

There was one killed in PA two seasons ago. I have physically seen the full body mount twice, it is really cool but not near as black as the one posted in this thread!!

Looks more like a newborn calf with antlers than a deer. Cool picture, if only I could be so lucky to see one of those.

Watched a melanistic doe several years back in the Boone area. Was really neat to see. She had twins with her that were normal color. Not quite as black as the one in the pic though. Really cool to see.
