Michigan Bans Spinning-Wing Decoys in State Game Area
LANSING, Mich. (AP) — State natural resources officials have banned the use of a spinning-wing decoys this fall by hunters at Shiawassee River State Game Area.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment says it will evaluate the ban for three years with hunter surveys. The Michigan Natural Resources Commission has voted to ban the decoys known as "robo-ducks'' at the request of the Shiawassee Flats Citizens and Hunters Association.
The hunting group proposed the ban because the decoy's use can disrupt other hunting parties in the same field. State officials say research has found no conclusive biological effects from their use.
The roughly 9,000-acre game area is in Saginaw County.
