I went to the farm today and checked my food plot. I noticed i have several shoots of milkweed showing up. i pulled up what i could while i was there but didnt get it all. what is a good way to get rid of it? Also noticed i have some weeds coming up too, if i get the clover to grow taller than the weeds willl that fix the problem for the most part?

Spot spraying or wiping with Glyphosate will get rid of milkweed. Mowing your clover will also help with weed control

Get them before they produce a head.

Mowing will keep milk weed at bay. I have one plot that it seems like every time I turn the soil the milk weed comes back worse than the time before. Usually mowing it a few times will cure it for me.

Update.

Milkweed is still popping up. i pull it up as i see it. Have some grasses showing up as well, chicory is really growing and the turnips are thriving. Clover is slowly coming alive. :p

I bought some weed killer right from the whitetail institute for there imperial clover. Within a few days the weeds were wilting. Mowing will help out tremendously. Cutting them before they head out and the clover will thicken to cover up the new weeds. I cut my clover once a month and then stop cutting around June/July. Good Luck

We have a swisher lawn mower that I pull behind the four wheeler. I have it set as high as it can go. it works awesome for our timber foodplots.
