Minnesota Hunter Injured Saturday While Deer Hunting
DES MOINES - A Minnesota hunter was injured Saturday while hunting deer in Mahaska County.
Gerald "Jerry" Bader, 71, of Federal Dam, MN, was hunting in a party of 11 hunters when a shot taken at a running deer from someone else in the party hit him in the hip with a shotgun slug at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday. The group was hunting just west of Barnes City in Mahaska County.
Bader was initially taken to Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell and later transferred to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. His injury was not considered to be life threatening Saturday evening.
The incident is being investigated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
