MN Bears

I have been trying to get a bear hunt lined up in MN for a couple of years now. Between changing jobs and having kids, I just haven't been able to get it done. Do any of you have any experience with any good outfitters in northern MN that you would be willing to share? I just don't think I can do it myself with the amount of vacation that I can use. I hope to use a bow, but I'm not against using a gun. I would like to take a good respectable bear, but I am not looking for a 350lb'er for my first one. Not that I would pass that up. PM me if you want to keep your suggestions private. Thanks for any help you can give.

I am not an outfitter but I ahve traded bear hunts for other kinds of hunts. I also know some good outfitters. Probably too late for this year but I would be willing to help you get pointed in the right direction. fish.on@tds.net

There is a guy named Keith Stran that guides arround Sturgeon Lake and Moose Lake about 50 miles south of Deluthe. He has moved up arround Bemije now I believe but still hunts arround Moose Lake. Great guy and pretty much a Minnesota red neck, but as honest as them come and law abiding. He knows bears and respects them, and will work hard for your sucess. I have hunted with him 3 times and killed 2 bears with a muzzle loader and tried once with one of my stickbows but had no chances that time. He is a bowhunter and is the only one I know that can actually shoot over 100# draw weight and can hit where he wants at over 80 yards. He has almost everyone hunt the first week of the season and runs about 50 bait sites. He starts baiting as soon as allowed, about 2 weeks before the opener, and freshens them every 2 or 3 days. If you hunt with him and he likes you you will become like family and he will do anything for you, or maybe to you, as he and his crew aren't above a little joke once and a while. If you are interested I can try to get you an e-mail address.

I hunt around the Grand Rapids/Bovey area. If you have any interest there then I can give you a phone number to a country store and you can try to get hooked up with someone there.

Thanks for the help guys. I am just hoping to increase my odds of having a successful trip. Otherwise it's kinda' like just opening up the phone book and picking a name. I have a list of the registered outfitters from the MN DNR website, but I don't feel like calling all of them for details.
