I was driving a buddy home on the last day of second season shotgun when we spotted this buck and another buck bedded up on a terrace only about 100 yards off the road but they hadn't even spotted us. He got out and stalked it along the bottom side of the bottom terrace, when both of the bucks got up, he was about 70 yards away and made a perfect double lung shot and dropped him in his tracks.
He owned the land that he shot it on and we retrieved the buck immediately. Little did we know what we were dealing with. When I drove up to the deer in my truck we knew it was a wide buck, but since he shot it at almost the last minute of daylight he knew it was wide but wasn't sure how big it was. We had the buck scored as nontypical and it scored 154 1/8. As a typical six pointer it scores 141 5/8. He has split brow tines and a set of kickers off of each g2. The brows are both split and each go over 9 inches and the g2 over 11 inches each. What an amazing buck! I'm glad I was there to watch!
I would have went with him to stalk but I figured if I moved the truck or opened my door they would run. He snuck around the back side of my truck and into the ditch and slid under the fence and made his way about 80 yards along the lower terrace, when he popped up over the terrace each of the bucks did too, it was really neat. This was his first year going out with us and his first deer he has ever shot, I don’t think he really understands how big it is but he will remember it while it is hanging on his wall!!
