You need to just pack up and move to a state that has a lot of big bucks and leave the misery behind you. It is obvious from your posts here you are a trophy freak like most of us here and that where you live is dragging you down. Seriously.........

It is no wonder that we have such a doe number problem when people have to go out and shoot little bucks like that. The meat isn't that good so if you aren't going to put it on the wall then don't shoot it. It is very frustrating to work so hard to manage deer in your area and you look at all the bucks you let walk to grow another year, gain a little more mass or just to grow up. I passed many a buck this year with my muzzleloader and my bow, some were in the high 140's and guess what, I still haven't filled my bow tag and I shot a doe with my muzzleloader. Then comes shotgun and people shoot whatever, if it has antlers it is obviously a better trophy then a doe no matter how small. Sorry to ramble on I get pretty worked up over issues like this. Always remember there are givers, but a lot more takers.

Several important points to consider…

Their firearm season was during the rut.

The genetics don’t look very good for tine length.

Most of the people in the pictures do look very happy.

We are truly blessed with great deer in Iowa.

And finally...

There’s a town in Wisconsin named Spread Eagle.

ISNT IT DEPRESSING. TO BE SATISFIED WITH A 30 INCH BOONE AND CROCKET EIGHT POINTER. I GUESS GOOD FOR THEM, BUT IT PISSES ME OFF WHEN I GOTTA HEAR EM ALL WHINE THAT THERE ARE NOT ANY BIG BUCKS, DUH YOU SHOT A 11 INCH EIGHT THE LAST TWO DECADES IN A ROW. TALK ABOUT HERD MANAGEMENT. NOW NOT ONLY THAT BUT WHATEVER THEY DONT SHOOT THE WOLVES RUN DOWN AND EAT
beerchug.gif
DEER SEASON HERE FOR HAS BECOME MORE ABOUT BEING AT CAMP WITH THE GUYS WE ONLY SHOOT DOES AND LET ALL THE LITTLE ONES GO JUST FOR THEM TO TALK TO ANOTHER SECTION OF LAND AND GET POPPED. I HUNT A SMALL FURLOW BETWEEN TO FIELDS AND A GRAVEL ROAD I LET A 3 INCH SPIKE GO IT WALKED OUT TOWARDS THE ROAD 7 MINUTES I HEAR A SHOT. WALK OUT THERE AND HEAR IS SOME FORTY FIVE YEAR OLD GUY TICKLED PINK THAT HE HAS A BUCK DOWN, I ASKED HIM IF I COULD HAVE MY COLLAR BACK.

Moose, I will likely step on toes here but I am 100 percent serious about moving away from the area if you can notfind enjoyment in the hunting there. I share your frustration about seasoned hunters continually filling tags with yearling bucks and not taking does but that is beside the point. For all people out there, deer hunting is not about the size of the rack or sex of the deer, it is about experience they live and cherish season after season. That is the deer hunting tradition nationwide. In a perfect world, we would let all bucks grow to mature proportions but the last I checked, this world was less than perfect. Point being, I think everyone here sees you point of view so either get over the frustration or pack your bags and move to an area where big bucks are plentiful. Chances are you will experience the same practices everywhere you go.................

Moose270,
I hear what your saying, but Shredder is right unfortunatly if you can't beat 'em than get the heck out. I live in Michigan as well and have finally become so fed up with it that my brother and I saved our money and purchassed land in Iowa. Moving was not an option due to family and work commitments. I hear this same story year after year, " you wouldn't believe it Todd I passed up 75 does and then this fork horn came by chasing a doe and I shot him, didn't see one decent buck the whole two days that I sat"

. I just laugh and try to educate them but like shredder also said, this is the way they have been hunting for many years. You or I or the DNR probably will not change thier attitudes for many years to come. Good luck Moose!

I am with shredder,it does no good to post over and over about how you have to put up with people shooting the small bucks. It happens everywhere and always will.

Hey Moose, check out this link. There might be some hope for you Yoopers after all.

In MI we only have a few QDM areas throughout the state so this would be huge. In order to get an area involved in QDM it has to go to a vote. Landowners and hunters that purchase doe tags in the area get to vote. Usually about 60% of the votes are in favor of QDM but 66% of the votes must be in favor for it to pass. The DNR also has a list of requirements, like 80% of the 1.5 year old bucks have to be protected.

You got me all excited, the papers link said trophy bucks. But then again i was just excited with a doe i shot than any other thing. but id rather see slug hunters come out with little deer than big deer. nothing torks me off more than to see "hunters" who pick up a gun once a year and shot a big one uve been hunting all year. what can you do though. im just happy to know theres always another buck to chase
