Two southeast Iowa men are in jail facing charges of illegal hunting and firearms violations, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources said.

Anthony R. Boyce, 35, and Kenneth J. Sargeant, 27, both of Letts, were arrested by conservation officers from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources after officials received a complaint of a dead deer in a rural area south of Muscatine on Saturday.

Boyce and Sargeant face felony charges of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and misdemeanor charges for failure to have a valid hunting license and failure to pay a wildlife habitat fee.

Conservation officers seized two scoped rifles from the men, two boxes of ammunition, several knives, and various other hunting related items. Officers also recovered the heads of two buck deer from the area.

Boyce and Sargeant are in the Muscatine County Jail.
Boyce also is being held on a felony arrest warrant in Muscatine County and a

misdemeanor arrest warrant in Louisa County for other charges unrelated to Saturday's incident.
