Morton buildings vs. all others

I walked into a 30-40 year old Morton building of a friend of mine a while back, a few holes punched through with forks and a few dents with areas of surface rust...definitely used. I got inside to very solid structure, doors thick and heavy, sealed as if new. His other buildings that were newer and not Morton just didn't seem to be of the same quality. I guess my question is, can you get the quality without the cost? Can you get the same gauge steel and what seemed to be quality hardware and a good warranty from other builders? If a guy was going to spend 100k on a Morton how much would you save with a different builder? Thanks in advance for any advice.

You pay a lot for the name & it's a complete crap-shoot what you get with Morton. They are a nationwide company so your quality is based on the crew that rolls up to your property.

I'd call a local post-frame specific builder and have them take you to a couple projects in your area. Proline Buildings in New Sharon just put up a big shop for me and I'm super happy. Numark Building Company in Pella is another really great option too, they were booked out further is what made the decision for me.

I've had 2 built buy the amish crews and just added the heavy insulated doors and really have no complaints. Look at what kind and how they set there posts lots of options there and thickness of steel and paint warranty is easy to shop around for

Spec out your own building and hold buildings to that spec. I think too many people just ask for a "40x60x12" without really comparing what they are getting.

truss spacing
OH door spec
Window spec
Metal gauge
Etc etc

Actually starting managing some of these for people. Gotta get apples to apples when building/bidding.

I am not for or against any particular post/frame builder, but I can't imagine that whatever long lasting qualities you desire could not be satisfied via many different builders. I just don't know what would make a Morton building better than anything else assuming that the same level of materials went into it. Probably most telling is the metal thickness (gauge). I agree very much with IowaBowHunter's post above. Make sure you are going apples to apples on the specifics of the materials going into it and I feel like there are MANY builders that would be about the same then.

Again, I am not anti-anybody here, but I have had two post/frame buildings built for me in the last year by two different companies and the quality of the construction is very good and I am happy with both of them.

Oh, edit to add...whatever size you are planning to build...build it bigger than that! For real.
