Moultries are what they are. They are a good buy for a guy who just wants to see what is in his area. They aren't going to instantly trigger for anything at anytime. They take a decent pic for about as cheap as you can take a pic and not be there. It looks like those deer are about 20-25 yards out. That's a poke for that Moultrie flash. I would try moving the cam closer. Good bucks and already sparring!!!
Are those pictures from the new D-40s? I haven't had many bad pictures with mine yet...
And not to steal the thread, but the IR moultries are awesome. The picture quality is great and I just got back a bunch of videos of mine and was VERY Impressed to say the least... I have about 4 of the old moultrie(before this year) and they are junk compared to the D and IR-40s... The trigger speed has gotten much better and the pic quality is a shocker from what I was used to...
Honestly, I would almost put my IR up against my cuddyback! Almost.. But for over 100 dollars cheapier.?. The IR is tough to beat!
You might try pointing the cam slightly higher. The ground may be absorbing much of the flash potential. Also, get some free photo enhancing software ASAP. Try Picasa, it's easy to use and will allow you to see things you can't begin to see otherwise. Link below.
