With the drought what is everyone thoughts on what the deer movement is gonna be like this season?

If it stays dry are they gonna stick near what water that is readily available?

I think movement is going to be higher than in years past. I think the food sources near water are going to be used up and the deer are going to have to travel more from water to food. Speaking of food, what is there going to be out there for them to eat? Crops are poor all plants are drying up. What does the acorn production look like this year? How are food plots doing? I think they all are weak or not at all.

My thoughts and hopes are that the only good thing to come out of this weather is a great amount of deer movement. I have already been seeing deer moving at anytime of the day. This could be from the high temps though.

Plenty of bucks with nice racks this year but next year doesn't look hopeful but is guess we will see.

I may be way off on this so what are your thoughts?

Water sources will be key if this drought keeps up. Find a good watering hole and you should be set. If you don't hunt near any water source, it could be a very long season....

I have seen no more activity around the pond then normal. And it is only water source left.(creeks have dried up)

Still getting water from food sources right now though. So it all might change.

By nov- I don't think it's gonna b a hugely different ball game. Id say the difference in food won't be night & day but I could b wrong. Folks will have successful food plots - just fewer of them and the successful plots will probably b better Hunting than normal. We have a lot of "wait and see time". September could produce a good or reasonable amount of rain. I don't think folks here will notice rack shrinkage during this drought- most has come after the majority of antler growth. It might hurt a little but I doubt most will notice. For next yr- some also depends on winter, etc. I personally am most concerned with ehd right now- #1 concern.

Early season I could see where water would be a big factor assuming all creeks remain dried up. During the rut I don't think there will be any noticeable change in anything. I suspect we will see plenty of rain yet before november.

I think the racks are gonna be stellar this year!!!!! :way: I think by the time you are gonna have to worry about shooting one, it will rain!!!!!!!!!!:way: I can get you a good lease for $2250 a week!!!!!!!!! In Iowa!! Probably supported by the IBA!!!!!!:way: Thats what I think!!!!!:way::way:

I hope it rains by October.

I do think it is too late for a lot of food sources to recover or get grown. I think food is gonna be the biggest push to get them searching, up and moving more.

I hate to think what its going to like next year if we have a hard winter.

I'm not planning on changing much about how I hunt.

But that might change, as the trees in the orchard are aborting fruit and the deer are hammering it. And we are in July......

It will be interesting to follow other mast crops.

Come the rut though, things will probably be "normal".

Im already thinking about putting up a stand in a white oak along the river that borders my hunting ground. I just hope there is water in it come october.

Around here it sure looks like the crops, what's left of them anyway, will be out early. Should make for more deer sightings early in the season. Rain will help if it comes today, but by another week it won't matter for most of the corn.

Sept and Oct are the usual dry months, and this big heat block in the atomosphere was there last fall just not as huge. We need to get the thing to move to the east. This would bring us a moist flow,,but that did not happen until Nov. last year so I expect the same now. No good moist systems until Nov. stormy type time. Just reading synopsis of the weather and the giant block will give way a bit, and actual rain chance mid week, but next week, it is supposed to re-establish itself, where it has called home. Mid-west. Can't they ever be wrong about this,,? they are about everthing else!
