moving a stand

I usually dont like moving my stands after season has started but i have been seeing my #1 buck about 100 yards from my stand on a regular basis. the woodlot i hunt is very small and i dont like intruding for fear of pressuring the deer. My question is should i take a chance and move my stand or wait till they start chasing and keep my fingers crossed.

That close I wouldn't risk moving a stand. I'd wait until they start chasing. If you decide you are going to move it, I would move it now but don't go the full 100 yds, cut the distance in half or a little less than half.

I had a very similiar situation couple years ago, I didn't move my stand and needless to say the rut came and that deer was as unpredictable as the weather. If it was me, this early in the game with November not upon us yet (still early IMO) I'd wait for perfect wind for your set-up and go in super early, move the stand and
then hunt it when you set it up. Guys are running and gunning all the time, no different except your pulling a set down.

I'd move that stand or just get in early and make a natural blind out of some branches and what's avaliable on the ground for a single hunt. I'm a firm believer that moving stands is good regardless of the time of year, nothing beats a fresh set

Another tactic to consider...I read where Rich Baugh set a stand last year very close to a bedding area of a mature buck on his farm and as opposed to "sneaking" in there, etc, he deliberately ran his tractor up to the area and left it running as he hung the set. The big buck did not freak at the sight/sound of the tractor as it was a normal happening on that farm. He just moved off a ways and I believe it was that stand that Rich got him out of a short time later.

If it is a small lot that you don't want to booger up, maybe you could play "farmer" and be obvious about it.

I can't say that I remember doing it exactly this way myself previously, but I was struck by a recent card pull where I myself showed up mowing an area and there was a nice buck through there about 2 hours after I left. So much for stealthiness and scent control.

The last three bucks I've killed have been my first sits in the stand. I carry in my lone wolf everywhere I go, hang, and hunt. I'm sure you'll be fine. Move it, and kill him.

I hate sitting in a spot wondering if I should move. I say be proactive and move, just don't go overboard.
