Imagine my surprise when I was going thru my latest card pull & saw this!
Never seen this deer before here, never heard of anyone else around seeing him. Kinda neat/weird!

First a Bear in North Central Iowa. Then a young bull moose in Osceola and Clay counties and rumor is there is a real nice 5x5 bull elk running around the Peterson IA area. A mulie in Plymouth county doesn't surprise me i guess.

That is pretty sweet to get that on your trail camera! Very cool!

Not trying to steal your thread, but here are a couple photos I took of mule deer in Cerro Gordo County three years ago.

Way cool! Anyone know the last time a mulie was shot in Iowa? Maybe it happens often, I dunno. Just curious.

Haha...heck no you're not stealing my thread! I put this on another site and a couple other people said they've seen them in the state too and posted some pics. If anyone else has some pics, post away....I love seeing that stuff!!

I also mentioned it to a couple of my buddies and two of my buddies said they've seen one in year's past (different years, different places).
I knew it wasn't like I spotted anything as rare as Bigfoot or anything, but guess it's a little more common than I realized at first.

He must have just been passing thru because this is the primary farm I hunt and I've taken 10,000+ pics of deer on the farm this year, and this is the only one this little guy showed up on.

There is no reason to think they would not do well in the plains of Iowa???

Very neat to see.

Ya, if only there were any actual plains left!

I've heard from hunting out west is that whitetails are much more aggressive than mulies and they'll chase the the mulies out of an area if they are both there.

Most of the ranchers I have dealings with think of the mule deer as a 'sign of the west' and would a lot rather have those around than the whitetails. They really grumble when they see more & more whitetails taking hold on their ranches.

Been talking to a rancher here in Colorado and they kill all the whitetails because they will push the mulies out of an area. He said that they will breed but the off spring will not reproduce.
