Deer Hunter Fatally Injured Monday in O'Brien County
DES MOINES - A Sheldon man was fatally wounded Monday while hunting deer southwest of Sutherland in O'Brien County.

Jeffrey Marienau, 60,of Sheldon, was putting away his gun, a .44 caliber black powder revolver, when it discharged, hitting him in the chest shortly before 10 a.m. Monday. He was hunting with his brother, Charles Marienau, of Hawarden, at the time of the incident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Iowa Department of Natural of Resources was assisted at the scene by the O'Brien County Sheriff's Department, the Sutherland Police Department, the Paulina Police Department and the O'Brien County Conservation Board.
