Muzzleloader Question

I'm going to try muzzleloading this year and have a question. When you sight in your muzzleloader do you run a cleaning patch down it after every shot, or wait and do it after a few shots?
Thanks!

I run a wet patch then two dry patches between each shot for the initial sighting in. Otherwise each time you shoot it's like shooting a different gun as more and more fouling plug up the barrel. After I get it sighted in I'll then let it go just to see how the gun performs with a dirty barrel. Good luck!

I would recommend shooting a cap or primer before loading as you may get moisture in the plug which may give you igniting problems if your wet patch is too wet. I see no reason to shot out of a dirty barrel ever.

Run one spit patch and one dry, both sides, and you're good to go! Ditto on the "never needing to shoot a dirty barrel". Unless you were in the Civil War and people were shooting at you, I don't think you would need to be that speedy in your reloading efforts. Better to have dry, reliable ignition along with less effort seating the bullet, I say

Have had issues with weak ignition or none at all during target shooting myself... You know you are not going to do well when you can see part of an unburned pellet traveling through the air...

Currently an Encore. However, when that happened I was shooting a Knight Disc. We pre soaked patches and had them a bit too wet... Shooting a primer and not wetting the patch so much has fixed that problem.

I haven't cleaned my muzzleloader since before early muzzle loader season. I shot it multiple times (filled 4 tags) during early season, never swabbed the barrel once. I'm taking it out for shotgun season this weekend. I guess I could brag, but you'd just warn me that "you'll shoot your eye out".
