muzzleloader shooters

I shoot a 50 cal. knight with 150 grains of 777 pellets with 245 grains of powerbelts following. I am not getting the group I want and I wonder if any of you muzzleloaders know of something I should try that shoots good for you? Should I drop down to 120 grains or switch to a different bullet? Any help would be appreciated as I plan on getting an early start on sighting my weapon in before late muzzle loader season.

I agree with going down to 100 grains. If that doesn't work...toss the powerbelts and try some Hornadys.
My Knight loves to eat 100 grains of 777 and 240 grain hornadys.

I would agree for the most part with the above replies. Lower your powder charge to 100 gr. and try it with the sabot you are using. If you still don’t get a good group them switch to a different sabot. I have found the T/C Shockwave 250 gr. Sabot to be very accurate out of my Knight. I am getting sub ¾” groups off the bench at 100 yards consistently.

I have never been a fan of pellets. Loose propellant has worked better for me, and I have shot both Pyrodex and Triple Seven pellets. I have found that pellets print differently and not as consistent as loose propellant out of my Knight Disc Extreme.

Good luck, and please keep us posted as to your progress.

All said above is the best advice. I would add that you should swab out your barrel between each shot. You may as well shoot with you eyes closed if you don't do that.

Moosehunters point is probably the most important...swab after each shot when sighting in. Once you are on a zero, then try it without the swabs and see what the bullet does after each consecutive shot

Personally, I had piss poor results with the powerbelts. Switcthed and was grouping nicely with Hornady's. Switched again last year because I wanted a 200 grain bullet, Shockwaves, they were also very accurate but I will probably be going back to the Horndady's for the knock down power.

That sucks! I just picked up some power belts to see if I'd like them. I've always shot Barnes bullets out of my Knight but thought I'd give these a try. I'll let you know how they shoot out of my Disk rifle.

I shoot 195 grain powerbelts out of my 45 caliber with a 150 Grains of powder and they perform awesome. I would just try them all until you find one you like

All good advice. My gun is capable of handling 150 grain loads but had such good luck shooting 295 gr. Powerbelts with 100 grains (2 50 gr. Pyrodex pellets), I've never tried anything else. And why punish your shoulder when you don't have to!

My Encore loves the Hornady lock and loads with 150grns. of 777. It did not however like the Barnes with either 100 or 150 grns.

I have a Knight MK-85 50 Cal, that I shoot 100 grains of 777 loose and 250 grain Barnes MZ expanders that I can put 3 shots in a quarter size area at 100 yards as long as I hold it steady off a sandbag and bench.
And I'm not a very good rifleman.

I have not had any problem killing deer with it.

5 out of 6 guys I know (myself included) are shooting the T/C Shockwaves 250gr and Triple 7 with great results. All 5 are shooting T/C guns though, the 6th is a Knight guy, I think he sticks with Barnes bullets.
The one guy I actually shoot with can repeatedly get 1" groups at 100 yards with 100gr of T7. My Encore seems to like more powder and prints 1.5" with 125 grains of loose T7 (cant seem to get that magical 1" group). We played with the chronograph last time and noticed that his Omega consistantly averaged about 75-100 fps faster than mine with identical loads and charges. Slightly tighter bore?
FWIW, going from 100 gr's to 125 gr's of loose T7 added about 350 fps at the muzzle (1700 to 2050 fps) and printed about 10"-12" higher at 100 yards. We were a little surprised by that big of a change. Dead on at 100yds printed 3.5" low at 150 yds, grouped ~2.5". Bumping up to 135 gr's added another 80+/- fps, group size was the same but I decided to stick with 125.
Probably more info than you were looking for there but I tend to ramble...
