Muzzleloading for whitetails...

Just curious what everyone uses when they muzzleload for whitetails, like gun, bullet (weight, brand, etc.), powder (kind and how much), what scope if you use one? We are new to the muzzleloading sport and we didn't know how much work and fun we were getting into!!!!!!!! Our first muzzleloader we bought was a TC Encore black with the stainless steel barrel, we topped it off with a 4x12 power scope, i forgot the brand of scope! Like I said before we bought the muzzleloader we were totaly new to the industry and we were told to buy 295 grain powerbelts for it and shoot 100 grains of 777 pellets. It shot well but then I started to do my research on bullets and how to get the most accuract our of your muzzleloader and I discovered the truth about powerbelts and then I learned about sabots! Those powerbelts are terrible as far as performance on game I guess!

But I am now buying my own muzzleloader, a Knight Wolverine from a guy I met over another forum. It is camo with a stainless steel barrel and has only bet shot a few times! He is asking $150.00 and I think once he gets it up here I am going to take it! I am going to shoot some 250 Barnes tipped MZ ahead of 100 or 120 grains of 777 pellets! I will also try some 250 grain TC Shockwaves ahead of 100 or 120 grain 777 pellets, I'll shoot whatever patterns best! I just like the Barnes better cause they are solid copper and have 100% weight retention.

I shoot a 45 caliber disc extreme, stainless fluted barrel 195 grain powerbelts. I shoot a 150 grains of pistol powder through it. I have shot all kinds of bullets and the powerbelts work the best for me and do the most damage. Nothing like a 4 inch drop at 200 yards with a 150 yard zero

I have an encore and did alot of testing with it and ended up with the barne's exspander 250* and 100 gr of 777.I'm shooting 2" group's at 150 yds and took my late season buck at about 110 yds with it and drilled him.Hand's down this is the most accurate muzzleloader I've ever owned.
The buck in my aviator is the buck I took with it.

Shooting a CVA Optima (camo with nickel barrel). I know a lot of guys on here pick on the CVA but I love it. Dead on at 100 yards and about 6" drop at 200 yards, shooting 100 grains 777 and 200 gr shockwaves. I think next year I am going to change to the barnes or hornady's because I wasn't really all that impressed with the damage the shockwaves did to my late muzzy buck.

Bought a TC Omega with a fluted barrel and thumb hole stock last year and what a blast. Used 100 777 and a 250 shockwave sabot and it did a number on my early season doe at 60 yards. I don't have a scope and don't plan on getting one at this point. It would be unusual for me to have more than a 100 yard shot where I hunt. I shot my TC about 50 times during the summer just getting use to different loads, etc. Good luck and have fun, just don't tell anyone we don't want the word getting and out and everone wanting to hunt that early season.

Hornady SST 250gr w/ 100 gr. 777

I've owned two CVA's and also the Winchester Apex. Hands down, the Encore is the Cadillac. Great Shooter
