Muzzy's and Party Hunting??

SCOFFIN

Miles Coffin
Ok, I've seen a couple references on here lately about utilizing pushing deer tatics during Muzzleloader hunting seasons. It is my understanding that in Iowa this practice is not allowed during either Muzzy season. Maybe these people are not from Iowa, but is there a technical difference between party hunting and pushing deer with other Muzzy hunters????

Party hunting means filling others' tags for them. Pushing deer is legal during late muzz, you just have to put your tag on the deer you shoot.

Yes. It is legal to drive deer in any season. However only in shotgun is it legal to put your tag on a deer that someone else has shot. Check the regs to be sure.

Nothing wrong with what you describe, just so long as all involved have a tag for the season and during that season such as... two or more people with muzzy tags can help each other. The thing they cannot do is share tags. Same thing with a bow. Once you use YOUR tag on YOUR deer, you can no longer hunt with a weapon in your hand. Shotgun seasons, you can assist each other plus share tags but only in the season your tag is good for. If your shotgunning 1st season and fill your tag, you can continue to hunt with weapon in hand so long as someone in your group has an unfilled tag AND is hunting with you. You could not hunt second season though (unless with a landowners tag).

As mentioned above, party hunting is when you can shoot someone elses deer and they tag it legally. Pushing deer is simply pushing deer. Whoever shoots the deer must tag it. You can not party hunt during late muzz but can push deer all you want.

Can you assist after your tag is filled with no firearm in hand?
This was brought up many years ago in our group for late muzzleloader. We asked the local CO at that time, and he told us you can not assist after your tag is filled. We have been checked several times in the past, and always the CO makes sure the tag is intact for everyone involved in a drive.

Nevermind I take back my last post... :D :way:

Just get an antlerless late ML tag and you can still hunt regardless....unless your county is fresh out of them.

Sounds like it would suck to be the last guy with an unfilled tag.. :) Thanks for the clarification.. Now, somebody come push some deer to me this afternoon..
