I set out Friday morning and got on a couple of Toms but couldn't get them to commit. I hunted until about 11:00 and decided to have lunch and take a quick nap. Around 1:00 I headed back out and (boy was it hot) located a couple of birds next to a small piece of timber and a pond I set up my Buck Wing decoys and started calling. At first it sounded like they were coming right in but then I didn't get a sound from them. About 30 minutes later I decided to get a little more aggressive in calling (I didn't know if I would spook the birds or not because this was only my second time out) and started cutting and yelping and that brought two Toms right to me! They both sat in front of me about 25 yards spitting and drumming. I shot the bird on the right only to have him bounce off of a small ridge and land in the pond. And the worst part is the wind blew him into the middle of the pond, so I had to go swimming to get my bird. But it was definately worth it!!! He weight just over 18lbs, 9 3/4" beard, and just over 1" spurs!!! I can't wait for fourth season to come to try and get my second bird!!!
