Here's the story. I shot this turkey on opening morning second season. We got out to the timber a little late, so when we got to our pasture the birds had already flow down. They were out in the middle of the pasture about 1/2 mile away. So let the belly crawling begin. In the next hour, me and a buddy belly crawled 1/2 mile to get as close to the birds as passable. There were 11 birds total. 4 nice Tom's and the rest were jakes and hens. Three of the Tom's were still about 150 yards out, and there was no way we were going to get any closer. The 4th Tom was in a creek ditch below us about 60yards out. All the Tom's were puffed up and strutting, two of them even started fighting! I thought that was pretty cool. So i reached into my pocket to get my call, and guess what? It had fallen out about 50yards back. So i decided i was going to try to get a shot at the Tom that was 60yard out. I started to crawl to get a better shot, and all of a sudden the Tom stopped strutting around, and started walking right for me. He was down over the hill, so i lost sight of him. The next thing i know, i see the Tom's head popping up over the hill 15yards away. Perfect head shot! I honestly did not think we could crawl that fare with out spooking the birds, and come home with a Great looking Tom. The Tom weighed 25lbs had 1in spurs, two beards 9in and a 4in.
