Well my dad took two days off of work to go hunting. He was heading into town and say a HUGE 4x4 in a field. After looking at the ground he called me. He told me their was a huge buck on one of my old bosses ground and asked me to call him and ask if he could shoot him. Well right when he said that the buck took off.
But we still had 3 days to hunt. He came in town and picked me up. We got to the stand around 9. Right when i got to the stand i saw a buck chasing a doe. I got up in the ladder stand and got my gun ready. A doe came charging out and a small buck was behind her. So i just watched them for about half a hour. Then i sat at the bottom of the stand. I heard something coming so i positioned myself so i could shoot it if it was a nice buck. Well i couldnt see anything so i turned back around. About a min. later i heard something behind me again. I looked to my right and their was a small 3x4. I let him go. I called my dad at 1 and told him i needed to head back to town. So he came and picked me up. I told him after i picked up my brother i would come back out. Well around 3:30 i picked up my brother and took him home. I got out to the gate around 4 and turned my truck off to open the gate. ( truck is a stick and no Parking brake
) My dad called me right when i got out and i told him i was at the gate and i would be their in a min. Opened the gate, drove through and got out to shut the gate. I looked around and right then i heard a gun shot. I was thinking to myself that it couldnt be my dad because he was at the goose blind and well i just got off the phone with him. I went over the the goose blind. I asked him if he shot and he said No. I knew their were some guys hunting south of the river. So i just told my dad i would call him when its dark. So we went are separate ways. I got to the Y and shut off my truck. It took me 10 of getting ready and then i got to my stand. Not even 5 min. after i got in the stand my dad calls. He say's "logan i just cought someone in my stand". I asked if they shot anything and he said "Yeah he shot a small 3x4" ( thought to myself its pry the small buck i saw) I asked him what he was gonna do know and he said " Im gonna call the Game Warden and have them come down". I told him ok and their i sat. I was so pumped up that i couldnt stand it anymore. So i called him and told him im gonna switch stands. He said ok but the Game Warden was on his way. I said ok and got back in my truck and went to another stand. Another 5 min past and my dad called me again. Said he has the Game Warden right behind him and they were going to go find the deer. Well i got back out of my stand and went and sat in the duck blind so i wasnt in the way. About half a hour later my dad came back and the Game warden took the guy to the station so he could get a ride. I walked up to my dad and said "So what happend"? He said "Well we went and found the deer and the Game Warden gave the guy a fine. Its a $750 fine for shooting the deer. $50 For tresspassing and got another $150 fine (for something else i cant think of)" He said that the game warden asked if we wanted the deer because it was land owners choice if we wanted the deer or not. My dad looked over to the guy and he was shaking his head. So my dad took the deer. I told him we should go to the check in and get some meat out of it. So i got everything and we took off. We were heading down the road and came up to KOA. And behold their was the guy. My dad got out of the truck and asked the guy if he needed a ride. And he said yeah. They both got in the truck and we took off. We got in town and got up to the guys house. My dad got out and came up to me. He said "Logan we are gonna give the guy his deer". I said it didnt bother me. So we gave the guy his deer. Well after all it was a $900 dollar deer. :[ I looked at my dad and you could tell he was glad he gave the guy the deer. It put a smile on my face to see my dad give him the deer because when he called me i could tell he was MAD. He usually doesnt give people their stuff if they were hunting on our ground. We got to the check in and i looked at my dad. I could tell their was something wrong. I went up to him and asked him whats wrong? He said "Logan i feel really bad". I asked "Why" He said "This guy is 65 years old. And when i found him i was so made that i grabbed him by his collar and shook him around. The guy said that after he was done that his neck hurt really bad. He told me he had surgery on it about 3 years ago" And right then i saw a person i have never saw before in my life. My dad felt so bad about it. But he said the guy was a really nice guy after they were done talking he just felt so bad about what he did. I told him "Dad you did the right thing. I know that you just made a new friend after you dropped him off" I cant help but smile right now because my dad has never done that before. We have had some people tresspass on our land and he completely lost it. But now i can tell he has changed after that one night! Well i thought i would tell this storie.
Your Dad probably did the right thing by forgiving the guy. BUT, He was not out of line to get upset for catching someone trespassing. $900 for a 18 month old 3x4 is a lot of money, but what if this man would have shot a monster that you had spent the whole year scouting, I'm guessing it would have been a different story.
I caught a trespasser in the tree the other day, he had me conered so i was cool and told him to talk to the owner about the property line. I said are we good and he said yes!! You have got to stay COOL!! TRUE HUSKER IF IT HAD BEEN A BEAST!!

[/ QUOTE ] Well like i stated the Game warden said it was the land owners deer. And if it was a big one we would have kept the buck no matter what. Even if it is a $900 deer.

You have got to stay COOL
[/ QUOTE ] Your telling the wrong person. My dad has been nice to some people that have tresspassed over the years and they keep coming back. But now since we have chased them off and have called the cops several times they finally got the point. A couple of years ago my dad went to work one morning and couldnt find his loader. (He works at a sand pit) He called the cops and they came down. We found the loader in the river about a mile from were it was parked. Looked like someone was gonna take it home.
AND the SAME YEAR someone else broke into the pit and tried to drive the dozer into the lake. But the sand was so soft it sunk before it got to the lake! So after that my dad decided it was enough and he wasnt nice to anyone anymore! Dug trenches around the pit so noone could get in. But the found a way in!
That was nice of your dad but at the same time I would expect a 65 yr. old man to know better. I'd say he's lucky he got his deer back and luckier yet that all he had was a sore neck. Your dad did the right thing but guys need to ask permission first. It's so simple.
This guy was lucky my dad even found him. He was going west when the road was North.
But he said that his buddy dropped him off in the state yard and he was gonna walk. Jim (tresspasser) said that his buddy would be back to pick him up around dark! This guy walked a good 600 yards if not more. The state yard is only 150 yards wide. We talked to the Game Warden and he said that next year they wont have public ground for hunting. They will make it a Fishing (even thought their is no lake) And just a place for familes to come out and have fun. But if my dad catches someone on our ground again. Its not gonna end well
I just got another call from my dad saying he cought someone else back their again. He was hunting in the stand he caught the other guy in. He heard a shot really close. So he moved to another stand. Yet again heard another shot really close. So he took the long way around and was walking on the road right by the state yard when he saw orange! He got closer and saw the guys dragging a small doe. He shot his gun at the ground to get the guys attention. And guess what they did. They started to run. My dad said you better drop the deer. But they kept running. He said you better stop running again and they stoped right in their tracks. My dad went up to them and asked them were they shot the doe. They said on the state yard. He said if your lieing im gonna call the Game Warden and turn you guys in. So they walked over to the yard and right when they got to the fence one guy said they shot the doe on are side but she was right by the fence. My dad looked at them and said "Since you guys are being honest im not gonna call the Game Warden" And then he left. I told him he should have called the game warden but he didnt. But next time im gonna be with him and its gonna get done!!!
you know you should post that land just to save the poor folks that don't have no where to hunt, unlike IOWA, you guys have no good state land and if there is any around, everybody and their brothers in there.
A man wants to hunt and can't find nor get permission to do so has to take changes I guess and your place is the first chancy place out of town
That public ground has been their for over 15 years. But EVERY year someone finds their way into our stands. Two years ago people were cutting fences and driving around our land. People have had their chance. Others have abused it. Now they are just gonna have to pay for it. Oh and as for the parking. They do have parking. Their was a little spot for them to park their trucks and walk in. Now they have 100x100 foot parking spot. And someone ran over the sign thats posted for the rules. They abused it so now everyone has to pay for what some idiot did. Its not my problem. If they need someplace to hunt they should ask they lousiana boys that come down here to hunt. They lease it out for 5,000 and to hunt the whole Rifle season its 2,000 for 3 people to hunt!
I'll stick to the free DNR land and now days I will not cross a fence while doing so. All the out of state money has made it so I know better.
But when I was growing up, I just walked out the front door and hunted all day on foot and never worried about it. everyone knew everyone and didn't care.
now days people have no respect for other people land and I see signs shot and nocked over and it make me mad and I know that's why I better not cross on to land without permission
YES, a few have spoiled it for a lot and I unstand the feeling of the land owner.
There was a day when I could shoot a goose wherever it landed, Not no more!
i would get out in the off season, and start hanging "Private Property" "no tresspass" "no hunting" signs on a hell of alot of the fence posts that border that state land, so there is no doubt, where the state land ends.
