MY GF's new IOWA Hawkeye Hammock/Tarp

Hardcorehunter

UL Shelter/Stove Geek
I made this for my GF. She is a huge Hawkeye Fan, so I made her this for camping/bow hunting trips. I used DIY Whoopie slings out of 1/8" amsteel Blue, for the suspension and ridge line. I then used parachute cord, removed the inner lines, and made whoopie slings for her tarp tie downs. I ran out of parachute cord, so for todays pics I used a couple of ropes. The tarp is 8X10 and the hammock is double 1.9 ripstop for the 2 color setup. I used Hawkeye grosgrain webbing I found at wallyworld for her hammock. I am waiting on some more 1/8" amsteel blue to arrive for my hammock that I just completed and I will post pics of it in a few days. I still have to complete a tarp for mine. My bow hunting hammock is green and my tarp is green, for a more natural color in the woods look.

That's pretty awesome! You've got some talent! Pretty good idea being able to stay up off the ground away from the critters and still have an over-head shelter.

Thanks man. These whoppie slings are a rope that I put inside of itself, and it slides in and out to allow tightening and loosening, and locks up under stress much like a chinese finger trap. You can let the suspension down and then use these to sit in and have back support while hanging out in camp too. Hammocks such as this are getting very popular with campers, elk hunters, and UL backpackers for their ease of use, comfort, and UL weight and compactness. These go in a stuff sack and only weigh approx 3 lbs for the entire setup.

That girl has good taste. Got to love having some Hawkeyes up there in clone land. Go Hawks!!!! That hammock looks like it would work sweet for sure better than sleeping on the rocks.

Thanks. I literally spent hours and hours watching tutorials and reading posts learning how to make these hammocks, stuff sacks, and tarps. Between these and learning how to make the back pack cylinder wood burners I make, I have logged in a lot of hours to say the least. This hammock stuff is pretty new technology as far as the Ultra light setups like I make. More and more elk hunters and the UL back pack crowd are turning to these setups for their ultra lightweight, small size they take up in a pack, and their high comfort level.

Thanks Guys. Brian, I think I would lose my butt on my labor. These are a lot of work. Maybe in the winter when my pest control business doesn't have me swamped.
