Being my second year of bow hunting, I had never been out after shotgun season. This year I decided I was going to give it a try. I went out on the weekend of January 8th. I climbed up the hill with 1/2 inch of ice and 10 inches of snow covering it and got to my climber that had been hanging on the tree since Thansgiving. I beat as much of the snow and ice off of it as I could. Fortunately, I had Goretex bibs on so my backide would not get cold/wet. I placed my stand at the corner of an unpicked cornfield where the fence was low and easy to cross. It had snowed only two days earlier and there were several tracks near my stand location. About 30 minutes before sundown I saw a doe coming. As I stood up, my bibs had froze to the seat of my climber. Not realizing this, I put some effort into standing up and there was loud schheeetttzz as my bibs came loose from the seat. Needless to say, the deer busted me and I left the woods with no deer.
My season as a whole was good. Saw more deer than I ever expected to. Had a small buck breed a doe within 20 yds of my stand. Missed two does that I shot at. Saw three shooter bucks, none of which I got a shot at and learned a lot.
Can't wait until October.
