I finally was able to watch my wife take her first kill this morning! She had listened to me rant and rave for 5 years while we were in Alaska how great duck hunting is in the early morning sitting over a decoy spread. She was finally able to experience it today! I bought her a new gun for our anniversary a few weeks ago and she put it to work today. Rachel shot her first duck - a beautiful mature drake wood duck right in front of the boat over the decs - before I even got my gun up! We saw it coming in at the last second straight out in front of us and she folded it and it sailed over the boat and landed behind us in the cat tails. She had a smile from ear to ear - it was awesome! We're already trying to figure out what days this week we can go into work late so we can go do it again!
Turned out to be a beautiful morning, it was the perfect temperature for her...didn't have to worry about her being cold and we were lucky and had ducks flying around us ALL morning - a perfect day for her to get the waterfowl bug!
Sunrise over the decoys.....
Can't wait till the temps really drop and the big flocks come down!!!
