North Dakota's Fall Turkey Hunting Season Set
North Dakota's Game and Fish Department says 4,630 licenses will be available to hunters for the fall turkey season.
This year's license numbers are down 20 percent from last year. However, 1,300 additional licenses might be used early this fall in specific hunting units if turkey reproduction is exceptionally good this year.
Upland Game Management Supervisor Stan Kohn says turkey numbers have dropped substantially over the past couple of years, but above-average snowfall the last three winters and normal rainfall this spring have greatly improved habitat conditions. He says that could mean better reproduction if there isn't bad summer weather.
Applications for the fall season must be postmarked no later than July 6. Only North Dakota hunters can apply in the first lottery. Nonresidents can apply for licenses left over.
