Nasty cut

I just got this photo of a buck sporting a cut on his flank.
Looks like he survived a close encounter with one of our mysterious mountain loins.

More than likely he had trouble with a fence.

Reminds me of a doe several turkey seasons ago. She had a young one in tow and got to within about 15 yards of me. A sudden wind shift made her jump sideways right into a downed tree limb and she tore a pretty good gash in her side trying to get outa there. Looked at the limb later and it had a small chunk of hide on it and she left a small blood trail going away.

Hopefully you can get some photos of this buck over the summer as his antlers grow.

It would be interesting to see if this injury affects his antler growth on that side.
