Finally got a shot at a deer worth harvesting today. I wasn't particularly looking for a buck but I'd passed up a shot at 2 very small doe earlier in the season and hadn't had another deer close enough to take a good shot at since.
Went out early this AM to a treestand and waited. About 15 minutes after sunrise there was no activity or noise except turkeys gobbling. I decided to give out a couple of medium/low grunts with the call. Five minutes later I could hear some walking around but couldn't see a deer anywhere. Finally there were antlers moving behind a brush pile about 50 yards off my treestand. When he finally came into a shootable position he was 30-40 yards away mostly broadside just starting to quarter away.
I hunted shotgun seasons in my youth in NW Iowa but haven't been out for deer for nearly a dozen years now. This was my first muzzleloader season and I'm thrilled to have taken a shot and put some venison in the freezer.
I guess this is a better photo of the rack:
