A German hunter who has never been to Nebraska submitted the winning bid of $117,500 for one of two state bighorn sheep hunting permits.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A German hunter who has never been to Nebraska submitted the winning bid of $117,500 for one of two state bighorn sheep hunting permits.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says the money goes to the bighorn sheep management program.
Thomas Lemmerholz (LAY'-mur-holts), of Heiligenhaus (HY'-lih-gen-hows), Germany, made the winning bid recently at a hunting convention in Las Vegas.
The old record of $87,500 was set in 1998.
The 46-year-old Lemmerholz hopes to make a Nebraska scouting trip in June. With the permit, he will receive four days of guide service, lodging and meals at Fort Robinson State Park during this year's bighorn season, Nov. 29-Dec. 22.
The other bighorn permit is reserved for Nebraska residents. It will be awarded through a lottery drawing in August.
