Need help, question for you bow gurus

I've shot the same Mathews Q2 for six years now, so obviously it has some miles on it. I put the fourth string on it a couple of days ago. The string I took off was a Mathews Tiger that had been twisted several times to keep the bow in spec. I might have made a mistake by ordering a Vapor Trail to the dimensions written on the bow. Now the problem. After twisting the Vapor Trail three times I'm still about 3/16's from spec. Should I twist the Vapor Trail until I get the bow in spec (Three twists brought it in about 1/16.), OR should I just live with it since the bow is getting some age on it? Also, the string is coming off the cam very true, but coming of the idler wheel its angling slightly, I thought I've read you can twist one side of the cable where it "y's" to bring the string back true, is that correct?

Took care of the problem myself, bow is back in spec and back to 71 lbs again, just can't keep a good mathews down.

I do wish those vapor trails had a little better serving though...

Good deal! I read this post last night and was hoping an expert would offer some advise, since I had none to offer. Glad you got it fixed.

KSQ2, you should be able to lay an arrow with a field point flat on the left side (standing behind your bow) of your idler wheel and the point of the arrow should be in the center of the string at your nocking point. This is called cam lean and you can adjust it by twisting the two strands of your cable that go on either side of the idler wheel at the top of the bow.

Something else you might want to check is the cam timing if you have a new string. On the cam are two holes (left side top and bottom of cam) find a couple of drill bits or nails that fit in the holes good and snug. Again lay an arrow or something stiff and straight on the two drill bits or nails so the arrow is parallel with your string. The idea is to get it as close to the same measurement from arrow to the string all the way from the cam to the idler wheel. You can make this adjustment by twisting or untwisting your cable and string.

Does anyone have a website he can go to because without pictures this sounds really confusing.

Headgear, if I'm reading you right, you're saying there SHOULD be a little lean coming out of the idler wheel... right? Like I said earlier, coming out of the cam, the string is true, it's the idler wheel that has the "lean". When I said "I took care of the problem", I was simply referring to bringing the bow back in spec. I'd be tickled to know the string is okay like it is coming out of the idler wheel. And you're right by the way, it's really hard to say all of this w/o pictures. Thanks guys for the help!

Yes, there should be some lean when your bow is not drawn. Again you should be able to lay an arrow on the left side of the idler wheel with the tip of the arrow hitting the middle of the string at your nock point. It's called cam lean for some reason but it should probably be called idler lean.

If you need any more detailed info go check out the Matthews bowsite forum... www.mathewsinc.com (lower left box in center of screen).... the guys over there seem to really know their technical stuff

KSQ2, Headgear is NOT one of the experts I was talking about.

But come to think of it, he should know a little about tuning a bow since his is ALWAYS out of whack.

KSQ2, first off listen to Cornfed because they have a post that explains this much better than I can (it has pictures).

Secondly, whatever you do don't listen to Rack, he ditched his Mathews for a Ross so whatever he says doesn't count. Besides he should be patching the holes in his fence from stray arrows.

Thanks guys for all the help, I'm very happy with how the bow is shooting.

Well from what I understand it can be very bad. It is a rare skin disorder but there is a way to counteract it. You have to get your toe jam lean just right. Here's what you do:

First thing you have to do is pierce both nipples. Once you regain consciousness put a nail in both holes. Again after you regain consciousness tie off some string to the left nail. If you don't pass out run the string to your right pinky toe making sure the string runs through the toe jam and then tie off. Repeat this procedure for the right nail to left pinky toe. I forgot to mention that you have to do this test butt naked so if you have clothes on untie and start over. Anyway, once you get everything tied off check to see if "little Rack" is dead center of the X created by the string. If not twist the appropriate nail until desired setting is reached.

Hope this helps.

So what your sayin' is that I have Jam lean and that what's causin the voyeurs. I did what ya' said and it appears that I'm leanin' a bit left, but only a little. I twisted the right string and boy it did change my perpective a bit.

I do think everything is okay now and I don't have the voyeurs anymore and if they ain't gone then I'll just have to live with 'em seeins how my nipples came off and all. I do think the voyuers has already affected me some 'cause I noticed when I peak through'd the hole in the fence with my left eye it's kinda blurry and my right eye sees just as good as it ever did.

Well I'll go back to shootin' again just as soon as I heal up from the treatment. Thanks again Headgear, you're a real buddy.

KSQ2~ Glad you're bows back to normal. As for my avatar......you're just going to have to live with it.
