Need HELP

My brother needs help with his muzzleloader. It's a Traditions Buckstalker, 50cal, inline 209 primer ignition.

The problem is, very inconsistent shots.

He is using 50grains of Triple Se7en powder and a 275grain maxi-hunter slug.

Our neighbor suggested using this set up, because he found it to work in his percussion muzzleloader.

The bullet seems to drop about 4in every 25yds(not enough powder?), at 75yds the bullet dropped any were from 12in to 18in. and were very inconsistent.

Any advise on improving setup would be very much appreciated. He was hoping to use it during 2nd shotgun season for sitting during the week. Yes, it's legal according to the DNR Hunting Regs book.:)

Are you using one pellet? If you are then I would find the lightest bullet in the size you need and start there. If using one pellet, then 75 yards maybe the max. range.

You are not using enough powder, increase the Triple 7 load, to 70 grains or up to 120 grains.

I am not an expert, but I think Blake is right. I have never heard of anyone using just 50 grains. A long time ago I experimented with my muzzleloader and ended up locking in on a 90 grain charge and I think that is light compared to many others that I know.

Ditto. 80 grains minimum.

100 grains of Triple 7 will work pretty good with the heavier 275 grain bullet. You could lighten the load to 80-85 grains of powder if you dropped to a lighter bullet.

Like the others said.....put some powder in it.

yea, if you are going to use pellets, then use 2. I would suggest using loose powder and try different loads. My inline loves 90 grs of triple 7.

I use 150gr of 777 with a 250 gr bullet... way more than I would like to use, but, its what the BDC omega scope calls for to make the circles line up with the yardages... I would say u should use at least 100 gr for that heavy of a bullet
