I was out hunting Saturday and had to leave the stand to earlt to finish moving into my new house. It was around 8:30-8:40 I was coming out of the woods got on the road and started to come over the little hill and all I could see was HORNS, so I droped to a knee and the buck had spoted me I new he wasn't going to stay their on the edge of the field long so I cocked the hammer on my encore turned the power up on my scope stood up found my mark and pulled the trigger. To make this long story short I missed the buck completely I rushed the shot I picked around the scope as soon as I pulled the trigger to see the buck hit the ground. My question is do you all think I have ruined my chance at this deer, the bucks are just starting to crusie and look for does. This buck is one of those once in a lifetime bucks it was about 20 inchs real long g2's and g3's. How should I approach hunting this buck?

Several years ago my wife shot a nice buck that she had missed 3 days ealier. The first time we jumped him bedded with a doe. A couple days later we found him in a slew with several does about 300 yards from where she had missed him.

Anything is possible during the rut.

i dont think the buck will be spooked, i mean it was kind of a fluke, to me it sounds like he was in an area you arent hunting, if you were walking out then maybe by missing you will drive him away from there and more towards your tree. he might be weary of the spot you missed him but back where your tree was im sure he would be more comfortable. either way he isnt dead and its the rut, get back out there!!!!
