New Binos

I'm definitley buying Vortex Binos. The question I have is I like the the crossfire but these are the only ones I've actually had my hands on. What are some of the advantages or likes of the diamondback line (or another you like)? Looks to be $75-$100 more for the diamondbacks on their site. Are you getting a much better bino for the $$ going with the diamondback? Also what power do you prefer (mostly stand bow hunting)

I see they have the diamondbacks in a compact model now. My gut would say that your additional $100 for the diamondbacks would be well spent. 8X or 10X is a tough call...I am leaning 10X.

I bought the regular diamondbacks this year. I like them. Come on a nice hard case with strap and a padded strap for the binos themselves. Also come with lense covers but I already lost one of the covers for the larger ends. The eye cover is good. End covers fall off easily. I'm not overly impressed with the optics, but they are probably right in line with the price. Best part is, if anything ever happens, vortex will repair or replace for free!

You should be able to do a side-by-side comparison of the two on Vortex's website. I agree that the extra $100 will be worth it, though. I am getting ready to order a pair of 10x42 Diamondback's for my daughter's first "real" binoculars. I prefer 10x for hunting, but then, again, I also use mine for general wildlife viewing and wildlife surveys, as well. I also hunt primarily out west where 10x gives me closer views of what I want to see. I read arguments all the time for 8x magnification, including for out west and its hard to argue. You will get a wider field of view with 8x, but better magnification with 10x. For primarily stand bow hunting, 8x will probably work better, but it will be hard to go wrong with either one.

I picked up the Vortex Diamondback's in 10x42 online yesterday for $190 with free shipping. It was a one day only sale or i would post the link here for ya. I had been looking at them for a while and when I saw that price I couldn't wait any longer. Looking forward to trying them out with all the good reviews.

Give Zen Ray a shot. They are darn good as well. Blow many of the "name brands" out of the water for the same or less money. I know jjohnson sells them. That's where I bought mine. Best pair of binos i've ever owned. They are very comparable to vortex from everything I'm told.
